Celebrating the 4th

By Don Engler, Army

Meaning: This piece reminds us to celebrate our freedom as our forefathers did when our country fought for its independence.

America the Beautiful

By Jason Turner, Army

Meaning: I wanted to paint something that I truly have a connection to. I asked a few of my first responder friends and family to model for me. Each first responder represented, I’ve either worked alongside or went to school with. I wanted to depict the “Cav Charge” because, having served within the 1st Cav Division, witnessing it in person gave a sense of pride of being an American. The flag is going right to left to show that we, as Americans, are charging forward to ensure freedom continues for future generations. The Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell and the bald eagles are all representations of patriotism and this great nation of ours.

Heart of the Patriot

By John Katerberg, Army

Meaning: Heart of the Patriot depicts the feeling many veterans experience as they take the uniform off for the last time. The flag of patriotism flies through the veteran and service person from the first time they raise their right hand until their last breath.
