Your words of encouragement will be printed on one of 2,000 limited-edition postcards inspired by The Six Triple Eight and included in Operation Gratitude Care Packages sent to our troops.

Learn About the Story of The Six Triple Eight

The Six Triple Eight, tells the incredible story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, a pioneering unit of women of color who played a vital role in keeping soldiers connected to home during World War II. Tasked with sorting a three-year backlog of 17 million undelivered letters, these 855 women ensured that every piece of mail reached American troops, reminding them they were not forgotten by their loved ones back home. In a time when soldiers were far from home, receiving mail brought hope, lifted spirits, and provided a critical morale boost.

The women of the 6888th Battalion worked in grueling conditions, housed in segregated facilities with limited resources. Despite being given six months to complete the daunting task, they finished in just 90 days, living by their motto: “No mail, low morale.” Their determination to connect soldiers with their families is a legacy of care and commitment that continues to resonate today.

Operation Gratitude honors this legacy by supporting our troops, sending Care Packages filled with reminders of home and heartfelt messages of gratitude—just as the women of the 6888th provided hope and connection through their vital mission. Now, you can help continue this tradition of support by writing a message of encouragement that will be included on one of 2,000 special-edition postcards inspired by The Six Triple Eight and delivered in Operation Gratitude Care Packages to service members overseas.
