April is celebrated as Month of the Military Child! In 1986, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger was responsible for establishing April as the Month Of The Military Child. The Department of Defense has honored his initiative ever since.
The month of April is an important one for children who have one or both parents serving in uniform. Of 1.9 million military children, approximately 225,000 will experience the challenge of a parent or guardian’s deployment or other extended service-related absence in 2021.
The month celebrates and recognizes the strengths of our nation’s young heroes: the children of our military service men and women.
