In May, Operation Gratitude will mobilize communities across the nation to serve side by side, building empathy, and positively impacting the lives of 50,000 active duty, military families, and veteran service members, honoring and celebrating their service. Thousands of soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen continue to be deployed overseas each year. Troops have been mobilized in new ways here on the homefront to assist in COVID-19 testing and vaccination efforts. Operation Gratitude and its volunteers are reminding these individuals they are not forgotten and that their service and sacrifice – in any form – is recognized and appreciated.
In 1999, the United States Congress approved a resolution designating May as “National Military Appreciation Month”. Today, there are approximately 480,000 active duty, 1.1 million reserves, and more than 18 million veterans in the United States. Military Appreciation Month is an opportunity for us all to share our collective gratitude and take a step beyond saying “Thank You” for your service.
Operation Gratitude and Veterans United Home Loans are teaming up to support National Guard troops across the country. Throughout the month of May, Operation Gratitude and VUHL will distribute 7,500 care packages to these men and women who have been mobilized rapidly and frequently over the past year to assist in COVID-19 testing and vaccination efforts, served at the U.S. Capitol during Inauguration, and assisted in civil unrest.
