The little intangible items and notes from around the US, give us a strong link to home, and remind us that we are in the hearts and minds of those we serve

To the folks of Operation Gratitude,

We are a small task force composed of Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors currently serving in Iraq. We’ve been away from our families… and civilization for a while now, and we have a while to go. As many at your organization know, spending the holidays deployed can be both a rewarding and challenging experience. Rewarding, because we have the privilege and honor to serve overseas, while others who are willing cannot. Challenging because we are away from our friends and families, and those little things from home that make this time so special.

We have received a great many packages from Operation Gratitude, containing everything from sustenance to hand-knitted beanies and holiday stockings. Each package was personal; they contained letters from school children, families, and community organizations. The little intangible items and notes from around the US, give us a strong link to home, and remind us that we are in the hearts and minds of those we serve.

Many of our Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors have reached out to the individuals who contributed to the packages (via both email and snail mail), however, I wanted to send your organization as a whole a quick thank you.

God bless you and thank you again.

Sincerely and Semper Fi,

Colonel S.W.M, USMC

Commander, Task Force Anbar
