Here’s to the Winners: This long-awaited book is a hand-picked collection of L.A. Daily News columnist Dennis McCarthy’s favorite columns from the past 25 yearsComplete with full-color photos, Here’s to the Winners is a special tribute to the extraordinary accomplishments of everyday people.  Thousands of local readers have been touched by McCarthy’s thoughtful, heart-felt and inspiring essays and now these exquisite  stories of personal strength and heroism can be shared across the nation.

“Dennis was the first journalist to recognize and write about Operation Gratitude back in 2003-4 when we first started,” recalled Carolyn Blashek, founder of the organization.  “His beautiful columns about our efforts inspired thousands of volunteers to join us at the armory–and most of them continue to work with us today.  Dennis is an integral part of Operation Gratitude’s success and we are forever grateful for his support.”

POW Charles Woehrle, whom you write about in your book, is in the NY Times today. He was also on the Today Show last Friday. I hope you were able to see that. My father was a POW with both Charles and Marshall at Stalag Luft III. I had the pleasure off speaking with Marshall Draper not long before he passed away. Two great men. Thank you for writing about them.
