Operation Gratitude Third Annual Holiday Drive

Organization to send 30,000 Care Packages to Deployed Troops

Over Veteran’s Day Weekend, November 10-13, Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, will kick-off its Third Annual Holiday Drive, assembling and mailing over 30,000 care packages to deployed troops for delivery by the Holidays.

Operation Gratitude’s ( www.operationgratitude.com ) mission is to put a smile on a service member’s face, lift morale, and express the appreciation of the American people for the sacrifices of the men and women defending our freedom. To date, Operation Gratitude has sent more than 71,500 care packages to individual troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Guantanamo, Bosnia, Kosovo and onto ships all over the world.

Throughout the Veteran’s Day Weekend, Operation Gratitude, together with the California Army National Guard, 746th QM BN and more than 1000 volunteers, including the cast and crew of the hit TV series, NCIS, will assemble and ship at least 30,000 Holiday Care Packages filled with assorted snacks, Girl Scout Cookies, Computer Flash Drives, DVDs, CDs, games, stuffed animals, t-shirts, toiletries and personal letters of support.

Operation Gratitude obtains the names of troops from their loved ones or from comrades who previously received a package. The vast majority of names are provided by commanders and leaders in the field who have seen first-hand the positive impact of the program on the morale of their Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors.

“I would like to thank you for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and support in sending me the wonderful care packages that you did! It’s always good to hear from people expressing their appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices that we are making to help further the cause of independence here in Iraq. It’s people like yourselves that make what we’re doing over here worthwhile. So again, I say thank you for your thoughtfulness, kindness and your generosity for they are deeply appreciated.” SPC RJL

“It means the world to all of the troops here in Afghanistan to know the folks back in America support us and are behind us. It is hard enough being away from home and loved ones, but it would be even harder if we thought our efforts were oh behalf of an ungrateful nation. Your letters and packages are well received. Please know that your kind thoughts, prayers, and actions are felt by the troops and we all appreciate it more than you can ever know! THANK YOU!!!” CPT D.R.

“Thanks so much for all that you do for the troops. By the way, your packages are known here as “the good ones”. Your packages seem to have items in them that soldiers truly need and appreciate. Especially the DVD’s. That is a big thing here to pass the time, the DVD’s. When I am home (I’m a Reservist) I plan to send care packages as well 🙂 and not forget what it means to the person who receives it.” SGT N.M.
